October 2, 2026

Happy October! Get out and enjoy the trails during this beautiful fall, because it won’t be too long before we are turning our thoughts to snow!

Though Galena Lodge is closed, the trails are open and in good shape. As part of the prep for the Forest Health Project in the SNRA, the Forest Service worked on roads throughout the Galena system and worked on the Harriman Trail. Work is reported to be completed for now, and trails should be quiet. But be aware there may be soft sections where there was work.

We still have a few sheep herds in the valley, but we are nearing the end of the grazing season. As always, watch for signs of sheep while you are on the trails.

Enjoy the trails!

Sheep

Trailing of the Sheep is October 8-12. This means our valley will be busy, and sheep will be on the Wood River Trail as they are moving between grazing allotments and events. Sunday and Monday sheep will be moving from Ketchum to Hailey via the WRT. Though we know sheep will be in the area, we do not know their exact timing and location. Please keep an eye out and enjoy the festivities!

Forest Service reports:

Warm Springs Band This band is in Rooks Creek they will move across Warm Springs Road and move into the Red Warrior area by the end of next week. (Trails 145, 152, 310)

Baker Creek Band This band trailed through Ketchum the morning October 1^st. They moved onto BLM lands in the Elkhorn area.

Corral Creek Band This band is near Bear Gulch. They will trail up the drainage and into Uncle Johns Gulch. They will be staged in the Lake Creek area before trailing through Ketchum on October 11^th for the Trailing of the Sheep Festival. (Trail 121)

NOTES & REMINDERS:

Stage 1 Fire restrictions have been lifted: Lifting the restrictions means the public is free to build campfires, use a charcoal barbecue, or smoke outside of designated campgrounds and recreation sites.
However, fire managers would like to remind the public that wildfires can be prevented year-round by following a few simple tips:

Never leave a campfire unattended.
Always keep water, dirt, and a shovel near a fire.
Make sure your fire is dead out and cold to the touch before leaving it.
Never use fireworks, exploding targets, or tracer rounds on or near public land.

Quigley: The first ¼ mile of Quigley Road is closed July 8 - October 31. If you are recreating out Quigley Canyon, follow the detour signs.

Quigley Hill Trailhead/parking and trail access from trailhead will be closed Sept. 1- early October. For questions, reach out to info@quigley-farm.org.
