Only a week away . . .

Are you ready for Santa's Sleigh?

Well, all the smart folks carpe-d diem-ed & skied/snowshoed Monday afternoon. The really really smart folks skied in the morning, before the air temp got on the wrong side of 0 ^oC, and the snow surface got stickly. If your chimmey sweep cancelled a house call, or your colonoscopy got postponed (oh, darn!), you can blame it on Otway, they probably called in sick and came skiing while the conditions were good.

Which they aren't right now. The grooming staff would really appreciate it if you could avoid skiing during this warm/wet spell (looks like a couple or 3 days). Your ski tracks carving into & defacing the water saturated snow surface will not be a benefit for near future conditions. If you REALLY have to ski, then please classic, keep it short, & leave the skate skis at home. That will somewhat limit the damage.

Based on the current version of the forecast, there should be a slight cool-down by the weekend, and hopefully decent conditions in time for Sunday's Santa-Ski.

Quality of skiing: 0.2 out of 10.

A cm of fresh snow early this morning, but not enough to improve conditions. Now instead of glare ice and/or rutted hard snowpack, it is glare ice and/or rutted hard snowpack with a sprinkling of thin slippery snow cover on top.

There was some snow gun testing recently, so extra large patches of crusty ice have appeared here and there.

Nothing is really recommended, even for those equipped with rock skis and personal protection gear for out-of-control crashes on the uneven ice sloped trails.

No grooming planned for Tuesday. The grooming staff get to sleep-in past 4:00AM. Yay.
