SHORT VERSION: -- +1.2 °C @ 9:00 AM Standard grooming of the artificial snow surface. Expect good skate & classic sking on the snow that has the artificial base. Elsewhere, with the showery non-snow precipitation overnite, you might hit the sweet spot sometime late morning, early afternoon.

LONG VERSION: Wow. What a +13.6 °C day can do to the snowpack! As noted above, skiing on the snow that has an artificial base, has been throughly groomed with the snowcat this morning & should be excellent conditions for skate & ski. Elsewhere, the snow depth has decreased past the point that we won't take the snowcat out on it again until/if we get another measurable snowfall. We were considering ginzooing other trails this morning, but the overnite precipitation should have softened things up enough, along with the rising temperature, (forecast high of +11 C) that the skiing should be decent somewhere before noon. Once the heat of the day hits for a few hours, the skate lanes will require a bit more work than normal, as was reported yesterday. From the folks that were encountered on the trail yesterday, most seemed pretty happy they were skiing instead of some other activity such as like paying bills, doing laundry, completing their tax form, or cleaning poop out of their back yard. Tough choices, but they made the right one. The bills, laundry, tax form, & (defintely) the poop still be there for another day's entertainment. The snow? Not so much. So get your priorities straight, carpe diem, and come skiing!

PARKING: Barking Lot & Main lots were plowed right after Monday's big snow. Wet and a bit icy, altho starting to dirt up nicely. Still, suggest you change into your ski boots in the lodge. Safer!

TRAIL CLOSURE NOTICE: Gosh darn it all. We had such wildly optimistic, borderline heroic hopes that Monday’s snowpocalypse would swoop in & resurrect the upper trails like some kind of fluffy white miracle. For a brief, shining moment… it did. Truly, it was glorious. People skied. Spirits soared. Snow angels may or may not have been attempted.

And then, plot twist. Monday afternoon rolled in with its delightfully unpleasant precipitation, teamed up with rising temperatures, and together they staged a full-blown coup. The result? Our once-promising trails have slipped right back into their favorite spring hobby: being icy, wet, stubborn, and generally uncooperative.

So, in a move that surprises absolutely no one (but disappoints all), we’ve had to close the following higher elevation trails once again: Up the Creek (past Old Biathlon Loop), Hickory Wing, Cranbrook Climb (uphill from Northern Crossing), Old SawMill Loop, Lynx, Raven’s Col, Birch Bend, Ridge Runner.

TUESDAY EVENING NEWS FLASH: The newest trail closure prize goes to Moon Dog (our shiny new dog trail), which has recently been promoted, quite dramatically, from “slightly damp intermittent inconvenience” to “full-blown maritime expedition.”

What used to be Moon Lake (easily bypassed with a cheeky little detour) has now expanded into the legendary Great Sea of the Moon. And no, there is no longer a sneaky way around it—unless you’re packing a ski-canoe, a Transport Canada approved PFD, and a properly updated marine chart. Bonus points if you can read tides.

Huge thanks & and a respectful tip of the sou’wester to Barry for the heads-up. Thx to him, we were able to get signs up and close things down Tuesday evening before anyone accidentally set sail.
