THIS WEEKEND'S GRAND EVENT: The 2 day Teck BC Cup #1 will be happenin' at Otway this weekend, Jan 10th (today Saturday) & tomorrow Jan 11th (Sunday). SHORT VERSION: +1.7°C @ 4:30AM. Limited skate lane skidoo/ginzoo grooming early this morning before the air & snow warm up. Should be decent skiing, the earlier the better.

LONG VERSION: Nice un-forecast 5 to 10 cm of powder snow Friday morning. Two snocats got most everything packed & tracked from 4:00AM to 1:00PM, before the temperatures got nasty. Speaking of air temp, @ 4:15 this AM, the airport was +3.5 C, the central bowl of Prince George was +3.2 C, & Otway at the stadium level was cooler at +1.7 C. So yesterday's trackset should be holding up well, especially at the lower elevations, and the ginzoo should do a good job of smoothing out the more popular skate lanes. We really don't want to run the snowcats, un-necessarily wreck all our good work, and hasten the snow-pack's best-before-date. Lots of winter left!

This is good weather & snow for skiing, unless you only venture out of your house when it is a 2 toque day. Likely the earlier your ski today the better, because it IS going to warm up, and the snowpack is going to get softer and slower as the day goes on. Anything after noon is likely be a klister day. There are a few restrictions until 4:00 PM each day on what trails you can access (see link to map above) this weekend.

PARKING: The overflow lot was plowed out on Thursday afternoon by our faithful plow operator Steve Arnold. See the above map link for location. Or, take the Barking Lot turnoff just after the 2nd set of railway tracks if u are coming from town, drive thru the brand new open yellow gate (thanks to Omenica Fabricating - our new neighbours) then immediately go thru the open (& rather historic) gate on your right. Lots of space, and you can walk or ski to the main parking lot & all the action along the packed trail that parallels Otway Road. Lot 2, 3, & 4 are all available. Please humour the meet & greet parking attendants, so your car doesn't get towed and parted out before you finish your ski :)

TRAIL DIRECTIONAL CHANGE: Up the Creek can also be known as Down the Creek temporarily. Until the Hickory Wing West (closed) situation is sorted, Up the Creek is a TWO (2) way trail, for the balance of this season anyway. TAKE CARE! There is a blind steep hi speed corner. Keep to the right, uphill skiers have the right of way.
