January 7th update:

+9 at 11:50pm January 7th means soft trails everywhere, unfortunately. Please do not skate ski or bike when trails are soft. Walkers please only walk on the dedicated walking trail system which is marked by yellow pin flags.

Ski trails: Skate lanes were groomed Tuesday evening, making them wider and level again. Unfortunately the trails softened quickly Tuesday evening with the temperature increasing as the evening progressed and winds picked up as well. Skate skiing is not recommended Wednesday or any day the overnight temperatures were above zero with warm daytime temperatures. Please classic ski or come back when the temperatures are colder. Skate skiing in warm temperatures means skis sink into the grooming making ruts that are volunteer labour- intensive to repair and makes skiing dangerous when the snow hardens and the ruts freeze in place.

Classic skiing: Track setting was redone from Junction 9 to 10, and unfortunately there was not enough time to do more. The track setting is still in place on many trails, it is buried under the new snow.

Fat bike trails: Trails have been packed over the last few days and are good to go - unless temperatures were above zero overnight and are warm during the day. If you sink, please turn around and go home, come back when temperatures are colder. Sunken bike tracks are very volunteer labour-intensive to repair. Please only bike on dedicated fat bike/snowshoe trail systems (green and blue pin flagged trails) Brad (our amazing fat biking lead) rates the trails a great 8 out of 10 for Monday Jan 6th: "Just a little drifted in snow dust, makes some sections a little spicy, otherwise I think I only put a foot down a few times over 7 Kilometres.". Please be mindful during Chinooks that the old icy snow is still present due to the most recent snowfall being relatively light (studded tires are recommended).

Walking trails: Most of the yellow pin-flagged dedicated walking trails have been packed and are good to go, with the most recent snowfall bringing some snow but not a significant amount, the old icy snow can still be present underneath certain areas making the trails slippery if it froze overnight. The warm daytime temperatures may soften some areas, but shady areas will be slippery and possibly icy. Extra traction on footwear is recommended. Please do not walk on ski trails or the fat bike/snowshoe trail system. Sunken footprints damage trails and freeze in place which are dangerous for skiers and labour intensive to repair.
