Trails update. Unfortunately same as yesterday....we are assessing at the moment we did have some freeze up.
We will be closing the Outdoor Center trails for the day. This is never an easy call. This comes down to safety. With just rain this morning and the temperatures just below freezing, our network has begun to glaze over. We will keep you all updated as we move forward towards the weekend. Our Gauge update is similar to our own network. Standing water over ice sheets with granular snow starting to glaze over. The Campbell Field Bridge has lost all its snow so we are unable to access the gauge with our grooming equipment at this time.

Outdoor Center Skiing report by Matts

As mentioned, the XC skiing network at the Outdoor Center had to be shut down today because of weather. Lack of snow, ice, and debris would makes the trail unsafe (and hard on your gear).  However,    I skied this morning on Narrow Gauge to see if it was possible.

The skiing was very rough starting at Campbell Field and heading south.  The high moisture snow is transitioning to ice. Also present are a season’s worth of spruce needles and beech leaves that have surfaced from yesterday’s melting.  The skate lane is pretty trampled, the classic tracks fared a little better.  Once you get beyond the long wooden bridge, about 2 km south from Campbell field, the conditions improve.  Snow is drier and tracks are better.  It is very skiable, considering that the first 2km is not so appealing. I actually found it pleasant for classic skiing. There is not enough base for grooming and these conditions could change pretty dramatically based on the weather.  Would suggest at least intermediate level skiers if you venture out. Waxless classic skis would be my choice today as the skate lane is chewed up.  I feel we still have several days left on Narrow Gauge but please use caution and watch out for debris.  It has been a great year, despite nature giving us this situation.
