Temperatures got down to the high teens last night and the little bit of snow that we received during the day yesterday really helped to produce a lot of nice corduroy. The trails should be nice and firm this morning before it warms up to the mid 30's under partly cloudy skies. The cold temps are helping to preserve the trails that we still have and we are still hoping that the forecast is correct about some fresh snow this weekend. The Ginzu's were freshening up all the skate lanes, as we wait for better conditions to try and set new classic. The best places to ski remain from the northern terminus down to the Campground Loop and down south of the Swamp Creek Loop to the turnaround before Stonewater Loop. Low snow conditions remain in between those two areas, but it is still possible to get through on a ribbon of snow, only needing to take skis off a couple of times for the road and 2 driveway crossings.
OPEN TRAILS: Everything north of the creek crossing at Stonewater Loop, except the southern side of Grizzly Mtn.
CAUTION AREAS: On the way to the road crossing there is just a sliver of snow left that can be used to get past a large exposed area in the trees. There is also a 2 foot wide melt out that has 2 PVC pipes to help fill the gap. Just after the road crossing are 2 bare driveways on the way to the Swamp Creek Loop which is showing a few more bare spots on the southern parts of the loop. Grizzly Mtn is now a 2 way trail and there are a couple of narrow and exposed spots.
PARKING LOTS: The OSPREY LODGE TRAILHEAD at the main entrance of Thousand Trails is our last remaining open parking for the trails.
THE WASHINGTON NORDIC CUP RACE that we are hosting on Sunday has been moved up to the STEVENS PASS NORDIC CENTER. We are very thankful for their partnership and allowing us to still make this race possible. Even though it is not going to be in Plain this year, we really hope that you can still come out and support our Plain Valley Nordic Team! More information can be found HERE.
TOUR de PLAIN UPDATE: Race #4 is going to be part of our Washington Nordic Cup race on Sunday, February 22nd, which because of current snow conditions, is going to be hosted at the Stevens Pass Nordic Center. It will be a classic Master's event with a start time of 12:00pm. More information and registration can be found by clicking HERE.
TRAIL DAY PASSES ARE DISCOUNTED TO $15 and can be purchased HERE, and as always, kids ski free, but they also need an online PASS.
PARKING LOT CLOSURES: BOTH THE MEADOW LOOP AND THE BEAVER CREEK PARKING LOTS LOST THE BATTLE TO THE MUD AND ARE TEMPORARILY CLOSED. PLEASE USE THE OSPREY LODGE PARKING LOT FOR PARKING OR GET DROPPED OFF AT THE WALK IN TRAILHEAD ACCESS.
