December 27th Grooming Report

Red in the Morning!

The old saying goes that a red morning sky indicates that some weather is on the way and we had a glorious red sunrise this morning at Trail Creek.  Moving beyond ancient sayings, the National Weather Service hourly forecast as well is also calling for some serious weather heading our way.  If you add up all the totals, it is looking like about three feet will blanket the trails of Trail Creek by Tuesday morning.  While conditions will be soft along the way, it will be lovely to have the addition to our base and to cover the few remaining obstacles.  Hopefully this new snow will also give us permission to move into the East Fields early next week.

We’ve already gotten a good start on building the base with 6-9 inches falling since yesterday’s grooming.  Today’s Husky grooming made several passes in many places in the Close Field with mostly a single, “try to keep ahead of the snow” pass through almost every trail in the woods.  While not quite completely universal, more classic tracks were set today than anytime yet this season.

Of note, the elk were in the Close Field overnight and Woolsey Woods at grooming time.  They are already getting kind of used to trail traffic.  Also looking ahead, the Teton Ridge Classic is Saturday January 11th and the JH Nordic Free Ski Day is January 12th.

Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop.
