SHORT VERSION: -0.2 °C at 7:30 AM. Breezy, high overcast. The skidoo/ginzoo has been out doing a light “de-glazing spa treatment” on the skate lanes after last night’s sneaky ice varnish. No snocat plans until the weekend. Conditions: still solid, still skiable, still smug.

LONG VERSION: The verbose Snowscribe could just say "ditto yesterday", but that would be WAY too easy. And mostly accurate. So we will go with . . .

Déjà groom all over again: much like yesterday, the skidoo/ginzoo has (or soon will have) gently roughed up that overnight glaze on most open trails. Just enough texture to keep things civilized.

We’re still rocking respectable snowpack on 90%+ of the skate lanes, with the inner core trails (hello, The Loop) hoarding luxurious reserves of man-made snow like it’s a secret stash. That said, yes, there are icy cameos. Expect them under overhanging trees and anywhere the spring sun has been enthusiastically meddling. If you’ve been lapping things all week, you already know where those icy patches live.

Classic tracks from last Saturday’s snocat session? Oh, they’re fast. Morning = “whoa there.” Afternoon = “slightly less whoa,” but still spicy. If that’s a bit much, plan your downhill diplomacy in advance and remember: the groomed skate lane is your friend, therapist, and escape route.

With the Ides of March now firmly in the rearview mirror, Winter #4 is making a polite, slightly reluctant exit. Last night dipped to -3.6 °C—noticeably less frosty than the night before—suggesting Mother Nature has finally glanced at the calendar and gone, “Ah. Right.” Expect icy patches to slowly expand their empire over the next few days.

A few trails are starting to collect smaller debris (looking at you, Iceman, Iceman Cutoff, Greenway Corridor), while Tigger, Pine Flats, Race Maze, & Hi-5 are still relatively clean-cut citizens.

Bonus Easter Egg for classic shufflers: Our excessively over-zealous Tuesday groomer discovered a 1.5 km stretch where he/she managed to set fresh classic tracks with the ginzoo on Tuesday. Rating: somewhere between “hey, not bad” & “let’s call it character-building.” Official score: -1 to +7 out of 10.

FORECAST: Gazing boldly into the crystal ball (notoriously less reliable than looking out the window), things are… warming up. The mid-range forecast is openly flirting with double-digit temperatures towards the end of the long weekend. Scandalous.

Thursday through Saturday still look reasonably groomable: below-freezing nights, daytime temps that (mostly) behave themselves. Beyond that? We are choosing blissful ignorance.

.

The clock is ticking toward Otway’s unofficial “best before” date. For now, though: trails are groomable, skiing is good, and people are still squeezing every last groomed snowflake out of Winter #4. The plan? Scrape together the last few elusive grooming dollars, pour one final tank of ~~liquid gold~~ marked diesel into the snocat, & send it out for a grand finale tracksetting session this weekend.
