Jan 31st: Grooming took place at Mt Shark on Thursday with some surprise heavy snow falling for a few hours around dark during the 2nd shift. The snow was accompanied by high winds and 1 to 2 cm's accumulated before the snow subsided- expect some snow on earlier grooming as well as some blown in tracks in places. Lots of shoveling was done over remaining drainage dips and trails were mostly trackset as normal. Ursa Major has the thinnest base and most exposed dirt and rocks and it was skipped this week in anticipation of coming snow.
The base is quite thin and below normal for this time of year, and as there has not been substantial snow to push around yet this year (less than 5cm's fell in January), some early season natural hazards exist on most trails. These including a few bumps, uneven surfaces and drainage dips, possible ice, a little exposed brush, and some exposed dirt and/or rocks, mainly on Ursa Major with a couple spots on Hercules.
