Attention, Nords! The Cascade Crest Nordic Race & Tour is on Saturday (April 26th) and conditions are looking prime! Thanks to the bountiful snowpack in the high Cascades, the preferred course (including specially groomed sections around Dutchman Flat and Todd Lake Rd) is prime this year. Spring conditions have consolidated the trail surface for fast, fun racing. With a projected cool down and fresh flurries in the forecast tomorrow, conditions on Saturday morning are sure to be epic! The Cascade Crest, presented by Latitude 44 Sports, takes racers around big meadows with stunning views as well as traversing hilly and forested terrain. Choose from the 5k, 12.5k, 25k, or 50k and put your long season of Nordic training to the test. Registration closes at 5pm tonight, so zip on over to
https://mbsef.org/cascadecrest/ to support our friends at MBSEF and register today!
The entire Nordic network is freshly prepared with skate corduroy and classic tracks today. The morning snow temp is -5C / 23*F and ski conditions include smooth, frozen cord to start and soft, slushy sweetness to follow. The air temp is registering 26*F at the Nordic Lodge and headed for a high near 50*. Neither cloud nor breeze interrupts the bright blue sky overhead, however a small front is projected to move into the area tonight. The full roster of snowshoe trails remain open as well and will be quite enjoyable today given the pleasant spring conditions.
Just a reminder that the Nordic Center and trails are now operating on spring hours and open from 8am - 1:30pm daily through May 26th. Nordic grooming gets underway at 2pm sharp this time of year, and it is essential that all Nords are off the ski the trails at 1:30pm each day. Skiing in the later afternoon or evening on the fresh afternoon groom before it has had time to set can leave deep ruts that will freeze overnight and become treacherous for skiers the following day. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation!
