Middlebury College Employee Ski day today, and it’s absolutely coming down here! Thick fresh snow coats the trails and trees, and at speed it’s almost a complete white out. Consistency best describes the surface today.

This morning we groomed and set fresh tracks on the Stadium, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Loops, the Practice Fields and Brandy Brook Fields, but the Prinoth groomer isn’t finished yet! The snow is piling up on top of the groomed surface quickly; we have about 1.5 inches of new snow coating all trails. As the groomer packs down fresh snow, expect trails groomed more recently to be softer than the ones done early this morning and yesterday.

With temperatures hovering just below freezing, the snow has a lot of moisture which means it’s glidey, and doesn’t compromise the skate skiing flow. It’s a great day for freestyle xc skiing; hit the groomers, single track, find fresh tracks, cut a new line – just come play if you can play hooky!

Burgin Lodge and the Barn will be open, and stocked with hot cocoa & fresh donuts from 12-3:30 today for Middlebury College Employees. There's plenty of sweetness up here with all this snow and sweet treats to fuel your ski.
