Jan 17th: With daytime temperatures expected to stay below freezing on Friday, grooming was done Friday at Mt Shark this week so the full trail system could be groomed with the usual double shift. All trails were groomed and trackset under a clear sky, with temperatures dipping well into the negative double digits by the end of the shift. The snow that fell before the melt this week had shrunk to almost nothing in some areas, but in other places there was close to 10cm's with a thick crust. This will lead to variable conditions, with some places much harder packed and icier than others, but with the new grooming and temperatures expected to stay below freezing, the trail surface should offer some control for a while.

There is generally a good base at Mt Shark but a few hazards still exist, such as a few dips (drainage dips have been filled in but are still evident in places due to melting out, with unusually warm ground surface for this time of year), and possible exposed ground or rocks (on the two usual tight corners on Ursa Major and Hercules).
